Do you know your Pentecost Mission?

“We all have a vocation. We believe that God has placed us in this life to fill a special need that no one else can accomplish.” – St. Francis de Sales

Pentecost is special to us because it's the anniversary of the Christian Church. It's 50 days after Easter, when Jesus rose from the dead. In those 50 days, he came back to finish teaching the Apostles. Pentecost is after Jesus ascended into Heaven to be at the right hand of the Father. It is when, as promised, he sent the Holy Spirit down to us. The Holy Spirit came in tongues of wind and fire to the Apostles. Now days, each of us receives the Holy Spirit not in fire and wind, but in the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.

Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit.” John 20: 21-22

When Jesus gave the Apostles the Holy Spirit, he also gave them the mission of the Church. Therefore, we were given the same mission when we received the Holy Spirit in the sacraments. The mission: to spread the Good News and all he taught them and to love one another.

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would stay with us, teach us, guide us and inspire us in the Truth and God's Will. Through the Spirit we are led in prayer, and taught how to love and serve God. Don't be afraid to mess up, the Holy Spirit will make your efforts perfect and pleasing to Him.

“Do not lose heart, even if you should discover that you lack qualities necessary for the work to which you are called. He who called you will not desert you, but the moment you are in need he will stretch out his saving hand.” – St. Angela Merici

We are children of God, and heirs, disciples. Our mission is to boldly share the love that is God to all the world. The Holy Spirit is the embodiment of that divine love. We are called to pray, aid those who need it with compassion, and spread the Truth that Christ, through the greatest act of love, has paid the price for our sins. Our calling is to spread that love.

Each of us has different gifts, talents, and interests. That's what makes us unique, and that is also what makes us a complete whole. If we all could do the same things, then many things wouldn't get done.

“Start being brave about everything, driving out darkness and spreading light as well. Don’t look at your weakness, but realize that in Christ crucified you can do everything.” – St. Catherine of Siena

Let us leave that back room where we cower in fear and waiting. The time is now. Let us confidently live our lives spreading the light of the Holy Spirit fire through the dark world we inhabit.

A felt board with the words: Trust God and Do Good.
